Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust public inquiry

Leadership

The inquiry highlighted failures of leadership at all levels of the NHS.

It rightly identified the importance of a clear leadership framework and the need to ensure that clear standards are in place for the most senior managers.

Developing a strong, positive culture of leadership for the NHS is the responsibility for all organisations and all leaders.

There is a particular role for the NHS Leadership Academy to ensure the right values and behaviours are driven through leadership development at all levels of the NHS.

Leadership that embodies and reinforces a culture of compassion and the need to put safety first will be a central part of the academy’s mission.
